Ernie Busmiller "Dumb It Down" - Nemo #30 part 2

Nemo: the Classic Comics Library #30 continues with a study of the work of Ernie Bushmiller on "Fritzi Ritz" and "Nancy" and her guy-pal Sluggo.

Plenty of study of the work of Bushmiller has gone on in the last couple of decades. Fans like Craig Yoe and Bill Griffith have made it clear, that the seemly simplistic strip has a much zen like quality.

I just know it's enjoyable.

And I know that there's a big difference between "being simple" and "simply done". And I know that Bushmiller's work is worth reading.

Enjoy.

Talk to you soon.

Bushmiller is one of the few cartoonists that never, ever lets me down. He had perfect draftsmanship (nary a speck of wasted ink) and perfect comic book comic timing! Nancy was always a wonder. I can't wait until some publisher gives us some great, big, beautiful hardbacks of this genius.

I've always thought that his collection of strips showing how Bushmiller's style was evolving was kind of definite! From the humor gag to cartooning metalanguage and the minimalist expression of a new architecture of humor. It's a total pleasure read and re-read these pages!

Mykal: fortunately, we won't have to wait for so long. Last news says Fantagraphics' Nancy Complete Dailies vol.1 will be shaking the stands in 60 days or so! Being totally honest I have to say I'm thrilled!
