Gene Ahern - Nemo Annual #1 - part 6 and final!

Here it is, the 6th and final chapter of "Nemo: the Classic Comics Library"'s look at the great screwball comics in their Annual #1 (and only) from 1985.

Bill Holman, Milt Gross, Dr. Seuss...they've all been covered here and a fitting closing chapter is the one focusing on Gene Aherns awesomely screwball strips, "The Nut Brothers" and "The Squirrel Cage".

This is some fun stuff and it really feels like good Sunday reading.

Enjoy!

Gene Ahern - "Squirrel Food" - Nemo #25 - the conclusion

"Squirrel Food", or just plain NUTS! There was a trend in early comic strips toward the absurd and down-right wacky.

Before giving birth to the classic "Our Boarding House" and it's star Major Hoople, a young Gene Ahern helped fill newspaper's desire to fill this trend with a few filler strips that beame regular features. Here's Nemo's over-view and a few samples of his "Squirrel Food", "Balmy Benny", "Otto Auto", "The Crazy Quilt" and "Fathead Fritz" that made a dreary world fun for only a nickel a day.

Enjoy!
