Special Problems and Final Word from Jack Hamm!

I conclude my sharing of Jack Hamm's "Cartooning the Head and Figure" today with the final chapter, "Special Problems" and a "Final Word" from Jack.

I had no idea what a touchstone book this had been for so many when it was given to me just last month.  I'm glad I got to hold and see what so many more had seen before me.  Sorry I missed it the first time around,

Whew!  Helluva book!

The Sports Cartoon!

My posting of Jack Hamm's "Cartooning the Head and Figure" continues for it's final week and today is the second to the last.

Today's chapter: "The Sports Cartoon!".

The sports cartoon was an integral and important thing in the first half of the 20th century and there was a good living to be made doing them for newspapers.  Seems like a curiosity now, but a valuable skill nonetheless.  The figure in action is as concrete a cornerstone of knowledge as you can get.

Dig in!

Hands, Feet and Clothing!

Jack Hamm's "Cartooning the Head and Figure" moves past just that in our next chapter.

Now that he's laid down the skinny on heads and figures, it's time to accentuate with those physical punctuation marks of the hands, the feet and the clothing.

This really was a well thought out and detailed book.  That Jack Hamm was alright if you ask me.

And even if you don't.

More to come.  The head and figure were just the beginning.

Talk to you soon.
