In the annals of "Classic Mad Tales", here's one that stands out as a classic amongst classics. "Mad" the COMIC BOOK issue #8 from late 1953 contains none other than Wally Wood and Harvey Kurtzman's take on that iconc giant (even in 1953 I would think), Batman and Robin in...
..."Bat Boy and Rubin!"
Enjoy!
Top of his game; strong ink job. It looks like Jack Davis mighta lent a hand on a few panels early on.
ReplyDeleteWood's good.

ReplyDeleteA master. I discovered this in the '70s through what must have been Mad reprints. Still blows me away.
ReplyDeleteI think I grew up with a black & white reprint in a (ugh!) digest sized book of this too. Great to see it full sized and color.
ReplyDeleteYou're right, Zachary...sounds cliched, but Wood is indeed a master!
I have the same digest sized reprint, which also featured "Mickey the Rodent"!
DeleteR.I.P. MAD
This comic influenced my writing and cartooning from the first I saw it in the reprinted versions of the classic MADs in the '70s. Wally Wood was a god; his lines, shading, panel composition - incredible - and plus he was just freaking hilarious.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by "Narr"...I was behind on my comment moderating, but that doesn't mean I appreciate our shared appreciation of Wood and the rest any less!
