A daily almanac of events and people I admire and appreciate. All things, and the people who did things, that were WORTH DOING! Songs and Cartoons and near-insane ramblings by me, too.

Fat Fury Returns and Sherlock Popnecker!
There'll be more on the "Superman/me" conflict tomorrow during "OTR Friday"...until then, enjoy some unadulterated Herbie with another great Fat Fury story!
I love how Herbie's expression of ETERNAL GRATITUDE is his normal stolid face. The bicycle pump sequence @ the end is classic.
Also: Have you come across anything in your reading about Herbie~ if Ogden Whitney based the character on Bill Gaines, by any chance ? He really looks like a preppy version of EC's Editor & Chief~!
I've never heard much about the origin of Herbie's look other than the Alan Moore interview I featured in http://jeffoverturf.blogspot.com/2010/09/herbie-popnecker-cover-model.html where the rumor is that Herbie apparently looked like a young Ogden Whitney.
Yes, that stoneface of Herbie's is a key to the comedy...nothing shakes him...like Buster Keaton, he's unflappable.
