San Diego Comic-Con Countdown part 3!

Here's the next 6 days of my Facebook page Comic-Con countdown up to and including today's.

The great Will Eisner and "The Spirit".

The Archie Comics Gang!

Too many things to do, so few Jeffy's.

Grooming, perhaps with comic geek romance in mind.

Star-Spangled heroes for the 4th of July.  There were around 40 or so star-spangled characters to come out of the WWII years.  I chose 4 to hang with yesterday.

The original Justice League of America-ers...Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, The Flash, Aquaman and J'onn J'onzz - The Manhunter from Mars.  Most of whom are jealous of the Avengers movie.

7 more days.  7 more sleeps.  My head's gonna bust!  This day next week will be "travel day" and first day at the zoo they call "Comic-Con"..I'll be sure to report all the fun back at ya!

Talk to you soon.

San Diego Countdown part 2!

6 more days have passed in my Facebook page cartoons counting down the days until San Diego ComicCon International 2012!

We're all a-twitter here about it.  The schedule for events on Thursday were formally announced yesterday, and without even seeing the next 3 days of events, I know that Unca Jeffy is gonna be one tired boy!

Some were confused by this one, thinking I was hoping to meet Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo and the 2 Chris's from the movie...no no no...I want to meet the ACTUAL Avengers.

And likewise...I'm not mad at Green Lantern...I'm mad at the movie makers.

3 grades of Hollywood's takes on super-heroes.  Good, Bad and WTF!!!!  Luckily Superman can handle a gut shot now and then.  I'm just confused on why we have to "reboot" Spider-Man 5 minutes after the first 3 came out.  And...Peter Parker's parents??????????? in 50 years of the comic?  Never heard of 'em!

My wave at the Twilight gang for my boss' boss.  I almost had my balloon mentioning "True Blood", but then I found out that they were two different things.  Again, who knew?

Star Trek, Star Wars and all thingies outer-spacey...a geeks dream.

I miss my Harvey comics.  That's all there is to it.  Casper the friendly ghost, Spooky the tuff little ghost, Richie Rich the poor little rich boy, Hot Stuff the good little devil, Big Baby Huey and the rest.  No I didn't forget Stumbo the Giant, the cartoon was just too small.

Did I mention, I'm excited?

Talk to you soon.

Avengers! Assemble!! - Imperious Rex!!!

Captain America Cometh!!

Here with the fourth issue of Marvel Comics' "The Avengers" from 1963, ol' Stars an' Stripes finally joins the ranks alongside Iron Man, Thor, Giant Man and The Wasp, replacing the unpredictable Hulk, to take on The Sub-Mariner.

Stan Lee and Jack Kirby were truly creating a new mythology, month by month.

Meanwhile, here in the present humdrum ordinary world of ours, I'm taking the day off of work to go check out that new "Avengers" movie that is surely to become the sleeper hit of the year (why oh, why won't they advertise the darn thing?).

Spread the word kiddies, The Marvel Age of Comics is still happenin'!

EXCELSIOR!

Talk to you soon.

Captain America and the Riddle of The Red Skull! - 1940!!!

The day is upon us, kiddoes! "Captain America - the First Avenger" opens in multiplexes all across the country today! Here's hoping that they have made a fun picture that can dazzle the eye and tickle the mind, updating things where the passage of time has made necccessary, but not crapping all over the original work by artists and writers who have made the character what he is and what made him something that would inspire a film in the first place!

I will be there to see for myself tomorrow morning, but until then, from Timely Comics' "Captain America" issue #1 from 1940 - here's the first appearance of that rascally "Red Skull" as Joe Simon and Jack Kirby envisioned it all, 71 years ago!!

Enjoy!

I'll be back tomorrow for a mid-afternoon posting to let you know either, just how awesome the film is, or just how securely you can put your money back in your pocketbooks.

There are creative folks out there making these movies nowadays. We've come a long way from old guys in suits, without a clue and with tight wallets making the dung heap, media cross-overs in the 1970's and 1980's! But there are still business and marketing school graduates who hold influence over the final product.

I have hope creative folks will out.

Talk to you soon.
